When we moved to Woodstown, we heard loads about the 4th of July parade- especially since our house is on the parade route. So, we were pretty excited to get to see the big day in action!
That morning, we all got up early, and kept at the zillions of projects we'd starting earlier in the week- things like hanging up bunting, cleaning the cobwebs off the porch (seriously, these spiders!), getting food ready, etc. We had a few families coming over to watch the parade w/us, and we wanted to be ready early.
Ezra moved our new furniture from the back porch to the front, and honestly did a great job- he moved my parents' big coffee pot outside w/doughnuts for a "coffee bar." This was shaping up as a great way to watch a two-hour parade!
`We even blocked off some street space for the kids- and I'm glad we did it early bc people were starting to set up nearly two hours beforehand!
Our friends all made it into our driveway before the street was closed off, and we settled in to watch the parade- which consisted mostly of tractors and fire engines. And some horses, classic cars, prom queens, and little kids, too.
The girls were troopers, and stayed planted at street-side to get candy- the boys, however...they pretty much got one piece of candy at a time, ran back to the shady porch, ate it, then ventured back out into the blazing sun again for more. I started off out there, but wow, was it hot! Sitting on the shady porch w/cozy furniture, coffee, and doughnuts (oh, and the occasional handful of candy thrown up to us!) was definitely the way to go!
We spent some time outside during the afternoon- the kids played in the sprinklers and baby pool while the rest of us roasted- and drank lots of coffee. It was a fun but long day!
After some dinner, we planned to head out to the fireworks. Well, some of us did- half of our friends left, and half stuck it out. And, luckily we're close enough to walk to the park bc wow, the traffic! Insane!
I forgot my camera at home, but we took two double strollers (and I wore Isaac), and set up at Marlton Park. I'm kinda scared about doing this all the time- the fireworks, I mean- only bc of the bugs. I'm super-scared of beetles, and seeing the whizzing all around us...yea, too much. Our friend had what looked like three grommets on her bag on the walk back home- nope, they were beetles. (I'm dying at the thought!)
The friends we went w/just sent me a few shots from the fireworks- yay! Here are the girls testing out the new stroller:
Cruising in the old one- it's covered in blankets bc I left it on the back porch, and...it's got a layer of mildew and pollen! Yuck! Big cleaning project ahead...
Let's get going! It's super-hot out here!
Ready for the show to start!
We had a great day, and walking back home after the fireworks made me even more thankful that we chose this house- it was fantastic for all we wanted to do during the day. It made me realize, too, that we have a house that our kids can definitely grow into, to someday have their friends over, to continue to celebrate holidays and other occasions in. So happy here.
And, even though it was a long day, it was the best! :)
