Also- the stairs were never really too interesting to Eve, but it's definitely a moth-to-the-flame situation for poor Judah! He cannot keep off of them! It's all the more frustrating for us, considering that we cannot use a babygate, given the fact that we only have one wall along the stairs.
So, in such a situation, you need to be creative.
Enter Ezra and his flat babygate idea:
We seriously underestimated the boy:
We tried reversing the gate, putting the bar on the bottom so he couldn't use it as a step, but really, it didn't matter- he already had it down!
So, he pretty much lives in the pack-n-play when the temptation of the stairs becomes too much for him (which happens a lot)! Another thing we've been trying is to literally put the pack-n-play on the stairs, completely shutting off any access he might find. It's super-ugly, but it works for now, until he learns "no."
Please, never do a pop-in visit over here- I have too many obstacles and things to move to make this appear to be a normal household! :)

boys were just made to run and climb i think! you could try the super yard xt. it can work as a play area or be arranged around an area that's off limits. it also folds easily and compactly for storage. we have one we don't use anymore if you'd like to borrow it and give it a try. my hubby works in philly, so you could meet somewhere to pick it up. let me know!
Boys are crazy! I say get a harness and a dog run. There, problem solved :)
Wow! Judah is just amazing. Our little girl seems just like Eve, and for now we are really enjoying our slower paced baby.
